‘Follow your dreams’ tattoo

The idea:
I’ve wanted to design my own tattoo for a very long time. From the beginning, I knew it had to be a compass with a world map. This because I have a deep passion for travelling and discovering new cultures. It also had to be a very fine line-art tattoo, as to not stand out too much.

Because basketball brings me to many places and gives me many of the highlights in my life, I wanted to give it a subtle meaning in the tattoo.

Furthermore, I have a lot of dreams and ambitions which I’d all achieve, if possible. This also had to show in the tattoo, so that it would reflect following your dreams, whatever they may be.

The realisation

I started with 2 images as inspiration, from them I took the elements I liked for my own tattoo. After that I started to match these elements together and drawing in Adobe Illustrator.

After the ground work was done, it was time to figure out how I could bring basketball into it. In the end I choose for my shirt number in the national team, #5. I wanted to keep it subtle, so I added 5 small marks on the outer circle.

I also wanted to put ‘follow your dreams’ somewhere. I choose to put it in morse code, so it could fit in its entirety. Morse code also has to do with travelling, so it all fitted together nicely.

The tattooshop

Finished designing, I started to look for the artist who could do my tattoo justice. I ended p with Ink District Amsterdam! All the artists there are specialised in line-art. I was extremely happy with how @marked_by_elise brought my design to life!
